Get the F*ck Out of LA Tour
3.3.22 | The Westcott Theater - Syracuse, NY | Review by Hope Alvarez
It’s not often rising punk icons make a pit stop in the snowy city of Syracuse, N.Y., but when they do, misfits and wallflowers trek into the venue to shout the lyrics back that are often only heard in their bedroom. At least, that’s what I do.
As an avid showgoer hailing from Dallas, Texas, my move to Syracuse meant my back to back weekends of concerts came to a halt. When The Regrettes announced they would be stopping at the Westcott Theater on March 3, attending was a no brainer.
With support from Kississippi, this tiny but mighty lineup offered a captivating experience that begged to be bragged about for days to come, just look at the collection of tagged Instagram posts to prove it.
Entering the stage in a kitschy-like way, backs turned to the crowd while Hot Chocolate’s “Sexy Thing” played in the background, The Regrettes took no time to dive into “Come Through” from their 2018 EP Attention Seeker.
Unsure if she’d been to ‘Cuse or not, vocalist Lydia Night vowed to make the night a core memory for everyone. Night infused herself with the crowd through the majority of the set by clinging to the barricade. Despite a two year touring hiatus due to COVID-19, Night felt right at home as she conducted the crowd to sing and dance along.
Their setlist was a winning combination of newer songs and classics, which will serve them well until the release of their third album, Further Joy, on April 8. With a discography full of gut punching lyrics about the chaos of young adult life camouflaged by catchy riffs, The Regrettes’ was a suitable show to attend that added spice to the average Thursday night.
